ps3/x360 was the worst generation for japanese devs, AAA budgets skyrocketed and in that ecosystem americans took the lead (they had the soulless manpower, infinite money and internet space to spread their corruption, american xbox had huge initial lead over japanese playstation and westoids were a bit lucky thanks largely to xbox popularizing genres among underage normie retards which were also their expertise, mainly first person shooters and other dude bro shooters, this is a period where snoys pivoted hard to bottom tier kusoge like killzone, uncharted, resistance, infamous...) while many japanese gaming companies were not willing to take that monetary risk or thought they couldn't compete with west. in that period those willing to take the risk and try fighting failed because instead of offering the antidote (like fromsoft with demon's souls) they fully embraced the slop state of mind so capcom made the worst resident evil game (re6 which played more like call of duty than survival horror), konami/kojima made the absolute worst metal gear solid game (bloated self fellating nonsense with long super expensive cutscenes), square enix made the absolute worst final fantasy (extremely detailed linear corridors with retarded and convoluted anime plot and garbage tropes). they mostly fucked themselves over by wasting time with new engine, also developing for ps3 was a nightmare. luckily we did get one last good final fantasy during that shitty generation and ironically it was an xbox 360 exclusive which sold poorly because during that time only shooters sold well. square enix went to shit when uematsu and sakaguchi left, their corporate structure wasn't able to produce a single good and memorable game since ff12, constantly chasing ever more retarded trends and completely abandoning their jrpg legacy. they even managed to fuck up the impossible, their money printer aka ff7 remake by introducing multiverses, splitting game into sequels and abandoning ATB.
