But that aside the reason is that it doesn't give good results.
For someone who is trans and is miserable having a dick and desperately wants with every fiber of their being to have a vagina the results are acceptable. For everyone else the results range from not good to down right grotesque.
The controversy comes from two extremes. At one end you have the autistic chasers who feel the need to protect trannies from SRS but only drive people further into delusion.
From the other end you have the SRS shills who are fueled by insecurity who feel the need to make their problem everyone else problem. They lie about objective facts, they try to gaslight trannies who aren't comfortable with SRS into believing it is something it isn't or worse, to shame them for not wanting it. They try to gaslight men by trying to shame them into accepting post-ops.
So the controversy mostly comes from people having an agenda, and the people with agenda projecting onto normal people who speak objectively, shutting down normal discussion in favor of whatever their fantasy is.
