Vast gameplay improvement over the predecessors. DS3 essentially perfected the Souls combat formula. Elden Ring itself just has a modified and expanded version of DS3's combat. The visual design of the areas ranges from mediocre to amazing. Other than that it's a downgrade compared to both its predecessors and Bloodborne. It features the most linear world and level design of any of these games, and the setting, story and lore are all rather disappointing (it's basically DS1 again but this time everything is even more rotted, twisted, burnt out and ugly). Easily Miyazaki's weakest game in those regards; you can tell he only made it because he had to, not because he wanted to.
