The Zune and Windows Phone were unironically great products. They failed because Microsoft entered the industry too late after customers were already comfortable with more established brands. That lesson (along with the graveyard of failed MMOs) is informing Microsoft's current decision to cancel a promising MMO. They've evaluated that the MMO playerbase is too attached to their current games and getting them to switch would require more than just a good game but a true phenomenon like WoW originally was. Short of that, it's probably not worth investing into MMOs.
