I was willing to look past the issues because the game was high quality and had a story I cared about. Frankly I find the bigger nag for me to be how the game softened up overall. Psychonauts 1 had much darker humor, which fit with the dark themes in the worlds. Psychonauts 2 still has dark themes all across its levels (cough cough grulovian tiananmen square moment, and everything involving cruller) but the humor is far lighter and it sometimes sticks out like a sore thumb. The pinnacle of this is the intern gang, which is meant to play the same role as the camp goers in the first game but man does it fall flat.
Oh well. Like I said, in spite of the issues Psychonauts 2 is up there in my favorites. One huge save for the game is the fact that the dark themes are directly part of the story (compare the story relevance of napoleon to any of the psychic six) and the story as a result is... VERY good.
