I try not to look down on people's difficulty grasping faceted media, philosophy or just thinking beyond their emotional inclinations but there are times it's clearly a wasted effort.
Agreeing with the rational risk aversion isn't the same as approving of the means or cause.
First of all, just to go over the futility of the matter, if Rorschach wandered the Antarctica for Archimedes he'd die from exposure. If he made it back somehow he'd still have to spend however long waiting for Nite Owl to perform repairs, during which Ozy with his clear psychotic paranoia would have showed up at any point to investigate and Comedian'd him. If Walter hid well enough somehow until they were clear and joined Laurie and Dan's second life plan, it wouldn't matter, Veidt has full control of the narrative and situation, he'd learn the second Walter popped up at the Frontiersman to fan the flames of his journal and kill him and the journalists before the next sunrise. There is no situation where Veidt isn't prepared to do more painfully and drawn out what Jon did in an instant. So there was no point deliberating it.
Even if word got out somehow it would just lead to world wide paranoia and conflict before Veidt kills Walter. More so, Jon leaving the world to its blissful ignorance until its inevitable demise is not comparable to attempts at dismissal despite inquiry from the public.
Readers not liking how this shitty situation makes them feel is irrelevant to the writing or reading of it. Readers lashing out at Moore like toddlers throwing a tantrum because he didn't spoonfeed them are why we've now got watered down swill like Doomsday Clock instead.
