But in live action, he wanted the color palette bright. To be dramatic and exaggerated, like a comic book. He made it bright, using natural reasoning, i.e. the sun.
Gunn wanted the fight scenes to be set in the sky. Therefore the characters will be in front of the sun at certain points.
The objective reason is because it's his movie. The sky often looks like that on clearer days, and that's when the scene was designed to be set.
