A normal 5 year (or 3 year if you are a pleb) white collar visa is better than an HSP because the HSP is tied to your current employer in Japan. You can hop jobs with a normal white collar visa as long as the job you're hopping to is related to your category. If you have an "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" visa, then technically you can only hop to a job within the same field. There are also tax implications.
