>Sugar, as far as I remember, is only said to be distributed to workers within the factory.
Fair enough on that front then, I guess the guy explaining it calling it the "Secret 5th element" that is actually the most important made me think it was treated the same as all the other elements, being that it would be used in all Zones. That and Sugar, the girl, is in Zone 0 and not 3
>The very nature of OFF's world is is nonsensical and, while admittedly a theory, feels like it makes sense the world is powered by the imagination of this sick child
This is probably my favorite thing about OFF's story, everyone has their own interpretation on how exactly the world is held together and works. This whole thing isnt really an angle I've thought of and yet it still makes sense when used in place of how I view OFF's world.
Though even with that, I still think to call the world "Thriving" is to ignore what's in front of you. There's no individualism allowed for any of the Elsen, they're such hardcore worrywarts that they cant even feel safe reading books in a library, and even all the elements they've specifically chosen to treat as the foundations of reality. They may be alive, in functional health, and still able to talk and work, but it's still a world rotted to its core in such a way that there's virtually no hope it making it better, only more easy to tolerate even without the potential of Hugo dying from his sickness. Eating exclusively meat, especially raw, is not good long term, inhaling smoke destroys your lungs and they'll eventually run out when theres no more mines, and plastic being your water means itll be found in most everything you consume and I dont need to lecture you on microplastics. Even in the worst and darkest of times, happiness and success can indeed be found, but that doesnt make the darkness any less present
