Not all that much as I remember, though this was due to having a bin full of wooden blocks for forts, ruins, battlefields and the like. Also cuz I grew up during the pogs craze I made extensive use of flippos, the plastic variants you would get in bags of chips - some of them had notches so you could click them together and they made for useful bunkers, towers, forts.

Think part of it was also due to Lego being its own factions in the various wars, often fighting alongside/against army men so they tended to keep to their own stuff.
