I consider MGQ to more so be a product of its time. That time being 2011 which fucks me up to think that it was 14 years ago now. 4chan was a very different place and MGQ became something of a phenomenon on this board and a sort of "weeb" cultural success even outside of it; for example with Ken Ashcorp's "Touch Fluffy Tail" song which was based off of memes about Tamamo. The game itself is a largely linear VN but the story, writing and even the music were compelling enough for a game which is largely about a boy travelling a racist world and being raped/eaten by pretty much everything that moves. It was very much a "you had to be there" kind of thing. I can't imagine someone playing it for the first time now would possibly be able to understand it.

MGQ Paradox is a damn good game though.
