I think 90s foils are best of course but I noticed most preFIRE cards have tasteful selective foiling. Modern frame ones are obvious but I've even seen selective foiling on cards from Rivals of Ixalan. The texture in the textbox also looks nice. Most WAR-onwards cards just have a flat sheet of foiling over the entire card and looks tacky and fake as a result.
