I wouldn't say her death made the manga better or worse. Nayuta had some good moments, but her death was ultimately a vehicle for the plot and to untether Denji. Not sure how far in advance that was planned out, but imouto type characters don't have a good survival rate in Fujimoto mangas.
You are right about the pedo cope, though. I recall some Illya poster on another board freaking out after that chapter and debating dropping CSM. What a shitty reason to read and drop a manga.
