I can't disagree with that. I love both games but holy hell did Suikoden 1 lock your party a LOT. I like switching my party members around a lot and I liked building my party around unites when possible but it felt so discouraged.

For example: I learned that Krin and Humphrey have a unite that isn't too bad because it works on Krin's speed and Humphrey is strong but slow. The one time you're actually forced to use Krin in the party you're not allowed to take Humphrey! It's like, really?? Fucking hell. Krin was still useful because I could just pop that rune on him that set the whole party's speed to match his but come on
