What I have done is study primary sources of history as an occasional hobby since the early 90's and let me tell you something. I recognize the retconning of an intellectual property when I see one.
There's 2 forces at work here.
1: New real evidence that has to be retconed into the existing narrative
And
2: New fake history to push an agenda that mysteriously wasn't there ten years ago, even at major university libraries, but somehow it's common knowledge now.
