I was hoping to bait people with the Fahrenheit conversion, but I skimmed the episode and it was set to 24.0C/75F earlier. I suppose the implication is that the dad wants the house to be cool when he's around, but explicitly makes her mom turn it off when he's not around. The Japanese really do make it a note to not blast the AC during the summer, and it's showing that papa doesn't give a fuck.
Very good, subtle storytelling.
