i pretty much agree with your sentiments about learning, you really can't just bang your head on fgs. but i think above all the most important thing is to just find other players on your level + have someone there to reassure you that you don't need to be able to do daigo's epic 30 hit evil ryu sf4 combo in order to have fun
execution is much easier in modern fighters anyway and if you ever want to see beginners loving an fg check out the sajam slams (i know, i know)
