All those studios are very reluctant to create new material (especially if it would require expensive custom-made sets and special effects) and it's just easier to rely on proven and tested slop, rather than to take risks.
Hell, most of the now legendary movies like Star Wars, Snow White and the seven dwarves, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Titanic, mad Max etc. took huge financial risks that would have probably been career/business ending, if they hadn't been such huge successes. And that's not the kind of risks that studios like to take. Better to just make yet another romantic comedy, or remake some old classic or a movie about cute animals. That'll always make at least some money.
Whenever you pitch a new idea, there will be some lizardman in business suit from the marketing department objecting it as too risky.
It's greed. It's corporate bullshit. It always is.
