Not exactly the same but I enjoy how Dungeon Meshi have well fleshed world, the protagonist is a intelligent dumbass obsessed with the monsters like Riko is obsessed with the Abyss. Monsters are animals that behave like they do for survival instead of just being foes for the heroes to kill.
