I'm going to assume you meant the jet produced by a shaped charge, but even then... no, not really. Check out the shaped charge in picrel. The jet has about 50% greater penetration if it passes through 4ft of air before it reaches the armor versus if it detonates in contact with the armor. Even after 8ft of air it's still roughly half as effective as it would have been if it had gone off in direct contact.
