Actual Switch 2 owner here. While I would love to believe people are rejecting key cards the reality of the situation is more about the new pricing of Nintendo. By making games like Mario Kart $80 and others $70 the major releases are straight up cannibalizing the sales of the smaller ones. Nintendo platforms were always Nintendo heavy of course but there is a difference between telling the userbase they have to save up for $80 games plus Amiibos + whatever Nintendo makes up. Cyberpunk and such outstanding releases have the same effect.
What outsiders need to understand is that in the current Nintendo landscape - for the average user - Mario Kart World, Bananza and Cyberpunk are absolute priority purchases for the new system. Maybe Guardians of Azuma if you like physicals but you are already saving up for Metroid and Pokemon A-Z. And because these games got very expensive (ok you probably got MKW as a bundle like everyone else) you will think twice of buying anything else for the system. I rather get the Bananza Amiibo than a third party whatever. It is not about keycards or digital. It is about big releases pocketing the surplus money you previously spent on third parties. This is happening elsewhere to various extent. A few big online games take all the money. A few big releases ask for more and more while smaller games suffer.
