i agree with kiki mostly being into movies/media before his time! he lives with his grandparents, no smartphone, and extremely slow/no wifi... and there aren't exactly any movie theaters in kitakami, either.
i think it's cute he only watches what his grandparents have... i imagine he only knows the big hallmarks of the genres, so if he saw something more recent or even slightly subversive it'd blow his mind...
