The huge problem with that is S1 is so safe its deathly boring and gives off the wrong impression about the rest. My friend had a hard time to get me to watch S2 because of that, which is where the shows get really interesting.
IMO Cinderella Gray is the best hook; great animation, starring competitive fight-baka glutton shounen protagonist archetype whom everyone can like immediately (as opposed to Spe who's just an all around nice girl) and starts off in a remote shithole where nothing larger than life happens and isn't confusing if you don't know the general setting, then opens up.
