We're talking about designs here, not artists. Engage designs are loud as fuck. They're often compared to vtubers, for good reason. The issue is you're calling the vtuber aesthetic "generic for its time," when it obviously isn't - it specifically signals "vtuber," it's very much not "generic" outside of that domain. Go to /a/ and see how many OPs have a character that looks aesthetically like Hortensia, Alear, Timerra, or Panette. You won't find many. Such designs are actually highly unusual outside of Live2D-rigged technicolor abominations meant to overstimulate the senses of ADHD gen alpha/young zoomers.
