Who's to say that we don't remember it in the place between this world and the next? Maybe we're supposed to accumulate fresh experiences here, over trillions of lifetimes, before we can ascend to the next plane of existence. There's a short story by Andy Weir called The Egg which expands on this idea.
If you did remember all of your past lives (if there is such a thing), do you think you'd be able to function? I saw, and experienced, some very dark things in those hospitals. I dont think im strong enough to handle a trillion memories like those. Or worse.
