MAC schools tend to have very retarded admins who don't understand the role the MAC plays in FBS. Akron fired Terry Bowden, one of their best coaches ever, because they got a taste of winning under him and thought they had turned the corner rather than it being Bowden who was building up the program. They've averaged less than two wins per season since firing Bowden. He gave them their only bowl win in the entire history of the program.
>"Certainly, Terry and his staff have brought respectability to the program over the last seven years," Akron athletic director Larry Williams said in a statement. "However, after undertaking a thorough review of the entire program, and in consultation with the [university] president and Board of Trustees, it is clear that we need to make a change if we are going to consistently achieve at an even higher level."
That "higher level" has been less than two wins a season since then.
