Unless something strange happens like the Dakota schools moving to FBS, it looks like MAC expansion is focused on going east rather than south. Though CUSA is marginally better in quality of play than the MAC, I'm surprised Delaware went that way instead of joining the MAC. The regional fit would have been far better than flying out to New Mexico. But maybe the MAC simply didn't want Delaware.

I think that they'll stay long-term. There's not many teams in the Pac-12 that UNLV actually wants to play. Meanwhile their two biggest rivals (Reno + Hawaii) are in the Mountain West. Losing SDSU + Fresno sucks, but dodging the other 5 schools in the Pac-12 is in their best interest.

Boise is interesting because they were able to do well recruiting and developing players while in the Mountain West. While the nuPAC isn't a huge upgrade, it's still a bit better when selling the program to recruits. For WSU and OSU, the nuPAC is a downgrade from the old PAC12. They're going to have a more difficult time selling recruits on the conference as they no longer will be playing USC on national tv.
All that to say that the gap that exists between WOSU and Boise should shrink even more than it already had before realignment.

Alabama has no loyalty to Mississippi State just for sharing a conference for a long time, they stay for now because its in their best interest financially while House settles. People in higher education are worried about the upcoming enrollment cliff from having a smaller college-age population that is now redpilled on the Student Loan Jew and rightfully so, but I think another future problem that doesn't get talked about is donations. Boomers donate a lot of money to their alma mater for both academics and athletics. They attended when tuition was dirt cheap and their degree set them up for a prosperous life, so giving back was an easy choice.

But younger generations won't see it that way, so what happens to donations after boomers die off? If you were stuck paying back loans for 10+ years and your degree didn't do much for your career you won't look back on college as fondly as boomers did. If I won the lottery and never had to worry about money again I'd donate substantial amounts to my school's athletic department and my major's department. I worked in fund raising for a university. In general, we didn't give a shit about 99% of alumni. Donations from them were "anchoring", meaning it created a sense of connection between them and the university. They felt like they were partially responsible for its growth and success when they donated.
Due to marketing costs and other overhead, we lost money on many alumni donations. But some of those 99% became part of the 1%. That's where the real money came from. We wanted them anchored to the school while they were in the 99% so they'd be receptive to us soliciting them for big money when they became the 1%.
