I understand people will just greentext and ignore this because "Hurr durrr" but, while there's a few things I think were toned down unnecessarily (eg. Gramps worrying Pyra was gonna whore herself out), the only things I can think of that were outright removed was the stuff about Tora creeping on Poppi.
Everything else is a localisation that's had some real thought put into it and can be justified.
I'm not really a fan of changing names, I would'a been fine with Homura, Hikari, Niyah, Kagatsuchi, etc. But, this isn't like when they change the names in a FE game and just make completely random thoughtless changes (Harold gets changed to Arthur because why not), the changes are logical and almost universally make the game read better for English speakers.
Like, I'll go to the fucking mat defending the choice to tone down the names of the Islands to make them not incredibly, stupidly, obnoxiously on the nose references to the 7 Deadly Sins/Heavenly Virtues. Firstly because it's the same classic "way too on the nose" stuff, where you have an island literally called Pride and another called Charity, but secondly because the way they're allocated doesn't make any fucking sense.
Gormotti is Gluttony? In what way? Nobody in the whole place is gluttonous. It's ridiculous. Surely "Gluttony" would be the goddamn Titan that eats everything? But apparently that one's Envy somehow. This is Persona5 levels of "We just assigned these things randomly".
Either way, point is the references are still there, Gormotti -> Gluttony. Leftheria -> Charity. Indol -> Indolance, etcetc. It's all still there. It's just not blatantly punching you in the face.
In short: Name changes are lame. But the XBC2 localisation is good. It's really good and extremely well done. It's Capcom Ace Attorney levels of well done.
