I don't want to get all "youtube video essay" but I think it's interesting that Hussie wrote that page, and had this idea in the year before Arcade Fire's The Suburbs released. I don't think he was making some point about the distance between people in an increasingly digital age, and all that stuff, at least not consciously, but it was there a bit I think when he designed each of the four kid's living arrangements.
It's interesting that you say that about a digital mythology. It almost makes me think of the series Pantheon. They even end kinda similarly.
What's fun to notice is that the trolls aren't in the contact list at this point, when I'm sure they were later on?
I guess what I'm kinda interested in now is, if there was a lost thread and Hussie losing track of the original story, can we sort of pick out this original story from the one we got? Sort of like how scholars will rebuild foundational myths from extant fragments from similar cultures?
