It looks good, is fun and has the capacity for some pretty crazy moments. Also the concept of a large open battlefield is pretty neat, though I find that only the automatons actually fulfill the awesome sandbox approach, bugs and squids tend to turn into annoying horde slop similar to darktide, but packaged in a game where that's not really fun to play against

The problem with the Leviathan is that Arrowhead's vision for its place in the game clashes with the execution.
I imagine that what they want out of the Leviathan is that you're supposed to see a fuckhuge monstrosity in the distance, piss your pants and cower behind a solid object while praying that it doesn't notice you. It doesn't try to actively hunt down players, it's basically supposed to be a level hazard that you avoid and try not to piss off, because if you do it fucking murders you. And on the off-chance that you do bring the ordnance to kill it, it takes a shitload of effort to accomplish.
The problem is that it has a stupidly long acquisition range (can literally spot and snipe you from across the map), can be stupidly accurate when it does this, is effectively instant death, and the player isn't proportionately awarded for being able to kill it. The only reward for killing a Leviathan is that that particular one can't shoot at you anymore, but it doesn't stop another two or three from spawning on the map. Fighting it is an exercise in futility, and yet players will do it anyway because it's literally the only challenging thing on the map. Stingrays can be brought down with Laser Cannons and HMGs, Fleshmobs can be shredded with Autocannons and Wasps, but Leviathans take some actual effort to bring down, whether it be sustained fire with an AT Emplacement or a team reloaded Recoilless dumping its entire ammo stock.
