You're right, but I must reiterate that it is a form of perfectionism, something you do for yourself and that you know will largely go unnoticed, the irksome feeling of a missing detail doesn't bother everyone the same way.

Not every design he makes has crazy amounts of details, and it is largely uneven amongst casts & generation of characters, but there's a deceptively high amount of little details one can appreciate or use to set their work apart while staying true to the character. Did Luna NEED to have each & every cycle of the moon on her dress, Sunny NEED a sun at the end of her long sleeves, and Star NEED stars on her dress? No, but it's neat.
Of course, it still is ultimately just a scale. Not every character is Rumia or Misumaru.
