I really do enjoy DCAU Bruce's arc. It makes you feel bad for him, but at the same time, it makes total sense. We all love the joke that Gotham is perennially a shithole, but the persistent ability of the city to just not get better would absolutely wear him down and make him bitter and cynical.
Of course this all culminates in some of his shitty behavior, like sleeping with Barbara and neglecting both Tim and Dick, which drives everybody away from him until he's the lonely old man sitting in a mansion, waiting to die, that we meet at the start of Beyond.
And then Terry basically brings him back to life, and proves that there IS still good in Gotham, and the city's not beyond saving.
It's neat. I like it. I also really like how the two characters in the DCAU with great big, sweeping arcs are Bruce and Clark. That feels pretty fitting.
