I'm skeptical about this claim. Hedgehogs are solitary animals, only the mother lives with the newborns, and those newborns don't come out of the nest until they're old enough to have spikes.
Nonetheless, it's true that the mother sometimes eats her babies. In most case, it's because she was disturbed, or they were handled by someone.
