Turning it into an action movie was a mistake. How much nonstop cape action movies comes out per year, or Mission Impossible #20492, or whatever else? Action movies are wildly oversaturated. Murderous robololi chopping people apart with a paper guillotine and doing spontaneous entertaining dance routines, is very unique. That was the allure of it. Removing that initial appeal caused some pretty severe damage. Nobody would have wanted Child's Play 2 to feature Chucky jumping out of planes to do infiltration missions. If you really like Chucky's character, then sure, you'll see it just to see him, but it wouldn't be your first, or even second choice for things you'd want him to be doing
