Shouldn't that have been elaborated at some point? The next time we see her, she's entirely doing Challia's bidding and looking for Shuji. No mention whatsoever about what she left behind, despite it being a constant on what is portrayed about her throughout the series.
I repeat myself: the elements are there and every scene would work just fine if we had more episodes, but there's just isn't enough material to work here. Audiences are operating at inference, which is what you are doing:

Okay, fine, but where does that leave her as far as motivations are concerned? Following Challia, a man she calls "broken" to his face? More of her teenage longing for Shuji, which was supposed to be the actual obsession she was supposed to have left behind?
