Because of permadeath, the game can give you very powerful or weird items and not just minor upgrades because you will probably lose all of it anyways. Each game is it's own experience and the fun of the challenge is trying to figure out how to win with the loot you find. Also there is no bonus content to buy because the game is not only complete and robust as it is, but it's also completely free. You just play it and have fun.
