a couple annoying things happened. that land on the other side of the stone wall has been farmland since around 1690, and it's several hundred acres much of which has been used as a hayfield for the last 100 or so years. the owners apparently fell behind in their taxes and the greasy never-worked-a-day-in-their-life offspring of literal billionaires bought all ~400 acres simply by paying the tax lien of $200k. Nobody knew, my family would have bought it in an instant but nobody fucking knew.
Anyway, they built a stucco mcmansion and put solar powered cameras all throughout their forest and perimeter, and bulldozed much of everything on their side of the stone wall.
Devastating as that big hill and field were the endless dream playland of my childhood and now the worst people on the planet overlook the whole town from their particleboard shithole and dozens of cameras peering out.
