I went backpacking in australia for 2 years, worked on a banana farm outside Cairns and a melon farm in Kununurra

My question is, how does aussies view backpackers? If your government is right now importing millions of Indians and Pinoys to fill the "economic gap" or the declining birthrates, would you be against giving residency to European backpackers instead?
