Lets talk quality, in this day and age where every starving artist has gigas of semi decent art floating around is hard to think of the Wotch as good looking, however I think in the context of the time the comic had a couple of things going for it, first while other webcomics of similar quality where B&W or where short news paper strip style comics. The wotch tried to update full pages in color, this makes it feel more like a comicbook. Second the atstyle slowly gets better, never as good as how EGS becomes but serviceable enough.

I think the characters where the best part of the comic, each having their own lives and levels of awareness of the situation and dealing with the weirdness around them accordingly. Some had fun with the TF like Jason turning into a hot redhead named Sonja Took me years to realize it was an anagram there was this one wizard who was pretty fun who had little to do with the main story but was a delight to see from time to time. Then you have more grounded characters like the school paper guy trying to expose the weirdness not realizing his own classmates where at the center of everything I think his story was one of the more compelling of the bunch, in general the comic had a lot of this kind of characters so your enjoyment if you decide to read the comic has a lot to do with whatever you like the characters or not.

One last thing I think worked in the comic favor was the little extras, before patreon the comic would ask donations with the character getting more TF the more the bar filled with money, you have people making fan animations, fan art and even ICS doing guess art in some issues. Overall I think those little things made the comic more enjoyable.
