Same. People tell themselves
>I'm just not trying hard enough!
probably because they're socially isolated losers who don't "know" anybody but their successful "heroes". If you only know successful people obviously your mind will start to assume success/talent is a shared human trait. If you only know (read stories about) Brahms, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, etc. and ignore the millions of others due to social isolation, you assume the world is full of geniuses and you're one of them. Same for writing, art, really any high skill ceiling activity. It takes active delusion and self isolation to avoid recognizing that you aren't going to make it.
