From their perspective it was Germany that started WW1 and it basically got out unscathed through the turmoil, as far as the immaterial cultural capital goes. In hindsight, the destruction of Germany in WW2 as a place and as a nation, and the completion of the plan to turn it into a hapless Western-owned economic zone, was kinda like a belayed revenge for WW1, and Nazism ensured the first strike came from Germany again allowing the revenge to be carried out with the Allied hands clean
