I doubt he read it. More likely he just watched the whole show and realized that Rarity and Twilight have a lot of good dynamics with each other. The finale where Rarity saved Twilight with the rock + her staying with her for her corronation probably pushed it further.
There's also the fact that Tamers loves drama and Twilight, Trixie, and Rarity in Tamers are all very egotistical ponies making for maximum drama.
