I think it feels like some of his fans are trying to push him as the newest addition of the "official shotacon canon", and that's almost always annoying to deal with unless said shota is truly unanimous, which is pretty rarely the case. Also, Tokiyuki just doesn't seem to have hit that kind of critical mass that typically accompanies characters that tend to eventually stick around in the fanbase for decades. I'm sure he'll have fans for years to come, but I suspect that his ultimate reception is be pretty niche.
