You have eloquently worded your post. There must be a subset of atheists who do and do not believe in themselves? If I could not feel confidence in myself, I most certainly could not imagine a God loving me... even though I believe in the one and only God (Jesus is King)... I do not deserve His love or forgiveness. I realize even my "righteous" works are like filthy rags... (The term “filthy rags” is quite strong. The word filthy is a translation of the Hebrew word iddah, which literally means “the bodily fluids from a woman’s menstrual cycle.” The word rags is a translation of begged, meaning “a rag or garment.” Therefore, these “righteous acts” are considered by God as repugnant as a soiled feminine hygiene product.)
