I grew up in a house with no insulation and a vaulted ceiling so rain was always loud, almost like being in a shed.
This house has sarking/insulation between the battens and metal and also a thick layer of insulation over the ceiling so you still hear the rain which is lovely, but it's muffled substantially compared to the other house.
In the rare case of torrential rain here it can be pretty loud, but having lived previously in a house with a concrete tile roof I much prefer hearing the rain on the roof.
Very comfy feeling to be in bed listening to the rain.

"Bullnose" is the term we use to describe the curve on the verandah (porch)
