I'm not familiar with the manga, but while the anime takes very clear inspiration from Toku shows, you can also feel in these final moments how series from that era, like Dragon Ball or Saint Seiya, also influenced this adaptation (which makes sense, since the same studio worked on those). Time to watch R now.
