I think you could skirt by with gameplay similar to the Made in Abyss game where the focus is exploration. You don't necessarily need to traverse the entirety of the megastructures in a 1;1 scale, just get a sense that you are conquering those large distances and at the mercy of them. For all Binary Falling Star's flaws I think it absolutely gives you the sense that you're traversing something inconceivably big and impossible.
