I'm aware they normally only have one row of spikes, but the array of quills is inspired by the unified local depictions of it in my area, which had a length of long, pointed spines running down the back. I just liked the idea of adding more on the arms and legs to look more distinct.
But that being said:

I decided to make two of them because I started to realize this while drawing her despite being very happy with the Chupacabras I had drawn beforehand that were going to act as her basis.

It's probably one thing to hear stories about a cryptid and look into them, and base a design off of that, but when you were around one being a very distinct/specific way it becomes hard to separate it from other depictions because that's just how you think it should be. Most people probably think of the "Sil" lookalike, but I've never been able to see that thing as one both because I've always seen it reported as the dog-beast, and the person who gave the original description admitted to having watched "Species" right before the "sighting" and thought that the events of the movie were actually happening, which never felt grounded to me. And I get that's where the original sighting came from, but tv reports and papers always showing freakish dogs just stuck with me far more. To me it's always been a monstrous spined dog-thing.

Pic related has some aspects to it I don't really like (the overly-long front claws and squished face with tiny, normal, non-bulging eyes), but the spines are very reflective of how I and others around me view it. But I suppose that when going with a more local basis, it's just not as easy to get others to see it the same way. It's understandable though, I can imagine Japan thinking the same about how we do some of their yokai too. So I'll still do another one for the Sil, but to me at least, this was a fun nostalgic trip back to the Chupa that I know and love.
