In the antique era recorded in The Records of Tales from Past , There was the "Magatsu," a giant disaster that loomed the land of the far east. The sky was forever abnormally colorful filled with five colors, but there was no day and night. Meanwhile, far from the south, there existed a "god" with eight heads and shaped like eight hills, named the Ara-no-kami, who ferociously threatened the people and their livestock, swallowed the rivers, and stopped raining on the ground. To avoid the threat of both the Magatsu and the Ara-no-Kami, humans fearfully fled to reed swaps that covered their head where they drank dews and could not see the sun and the twin moons for the rest of their lives.
So, the Great Heavenly God Hinomitsuru Kami-no-Mikoto, who dwelled in the sun, descended and sliced the Magatsu with a sword. The five colors shattered into the Five Pillar Gods, the direct descendants of the Great Heavenly God. The Five Pillar Gods fearlessly fought against the cruel Ara-no-kami, but whenever they decapitated It, it would swallow up one of the gods. The Pillar Gods' sacrifice caused the Ara-no-kami to bleed, and with Its defiled blood igniting the fire, those who were burnt by the fire of the reeds will become stronger and braver, whom they would become the Five Clans venerating the Five Pillar Gods. Humans bravely slew the Ara-no-Kami by decapitating him, but when they cut open Its heart, they discovered a sleeping beauty, a nine-tailed Phidian girl. She is the Great Heavenly Granddaughter Asayo-Yoruakeru no Hime-no-Mikoto. When she woke up, the dwellers of the reed field witness sunrise, twilight, and nightfall for the first time.
