1. The JCPOA worked because of its dual strategy: surveillance + incentives
Iran refrained from enriching uranium not simply because it was illegal, but because of three key mechanisms:

Strict IAEA inspections, including the Additional Protocol
Powerful economic incentives—the lifting of crippling sanctions
The snapback clause, which automatically reimposed UN sanctions if Iran violated the deal

When this structure collapsed, Iran responded by saying:

2. Trump's withdrawal destroyed both the deal's legitimacy and enforcement

A new internal justification for enrichment: “We were the ones betrayed.”
A reduction in IAEA monitoring, making covert enrichment more plausible

Bottom line: It was Trump's withdrawal that directly triggered Iran’s nuclear violations not the other way around.

All he has done since taking office is to actively help China by making other countries' tariffs similar to those of China, thereby making Chinese products more competitive.
